as a teen I had a friend he could spend some bread no doubt
liked to party stopped it hardly didn't know to slow down
his parents left inheritance he never have a job though
his bills were taken care of food and clothes were no prob, so
he did what he wanted, no structure or consequence
responsible for nothing drank until he lost consciousness,
did this on the daily had ridiculous tolerance
unsatisfied he had to try pills but the opposite
effect happened rapidly, liver failed to function
now he lives in a hospital bed, I.V. pumping,
waiting for a transplant he said the part he can't stand
he hoped to live at least four scores like a grand slam
to be a grandparent and to merit a family
as a kid that was all he couldn't buy not so handily,
i took this as a sign to re-evalulate my lifestyle,
focused on the future greeting days with a polite smile

Meet Danny, a spoiled brat who grew up with a silver spoon/
He had every toy you could imagine in the living room/
Way beyond selfish, only cared about himself/
He knew his parents were rich, and he'd inherit the wealth/
A pocket full of cash, everyday he'd pass this bum/
Just laugh to in his face, when he asked him for some/
Then one day he noticed, the sidewalk was deserted/
White chalk on the curb it, meant he must've been murdered/
His mom called later, sayin "son time to spill the beans/
See I was pregnant with twins, but I was still a teen/
N two kids ain't an option, when you're living in poverty/
Gave one up for adoption, a year later hit the lottery/
But we had no idea he lived in this very town/
Til last night, he was killed & now he's cemetery bound/
Now Danny felt compassion for the first time in his life/
And vowed to spend the rest, turning wrongs into rights.

our life is a mission and we fight to keep livin
see the path that we make is formed by all these decisions
big or small I recall but that's easy in hindsight,
to look back at a bad choice and wish to retry life
but the future is different we don't know if we'll exist then,

so persistent, we can only move forward
on a search for the answer and I hope I'm getting warmer
